ITHS Uttara Preschool
& Junior Section celebrated “The World Book Day” for the very first time in
a very grand manner this year. This day is observed worldwide with much zeal to
encourage reading! Moreover, today is the birth anniversary of the most
renowned English poet, playwright, and actor – William Shakespeare, who is also
widely known as the father of English Literature.
The celebration was carried
on throughout the month of April. Students were encouraged to read books to
promote the habit of reading. Students read books along with their parents,
teachers and senior peers. During the first week of the month, parents were
invited in the library to share their favorite stories with the children. On
the second week of the month, teachers shared their favorite stories with the
students. The senior students also had the opportunity to share their favorite
books with their junior peers in the following week.
The month-long
celebration ended on April 23, 2017 with a vibrant program where students
dressed up as their favorite characters from various story books. Students gathered in the auditorium in the
first school hour with much enthusiasm and excitement to rejoice the day.
Students were chosen at random to come to the stage and present the characters
they were dressed up as. After the students’ presentation a brief biography of
Shakespeare was given. The program concluded with the exhibition of banners
made by the students of their beloved books. Not only students, teachers also
appeared in various fictitious and historical characters such as Cleopatra,
Nurjahan, Portia, Elsa, Professor Snape, Marie Curie, Matilda, Sherlock Holmes
and so on. As a whole it was a very colorful and rewarding event for all.
