On Thursday 3 November
2016, students of grade 4 were taken on a short excursion to Agora. The
initiative was taken by the English Literature teachers to incorporate literary
knowledge with real life experience. In the most recent story, The Piece of
String by Guy de Maupassant, students learned how imagery was used by the
writer to bring a particular scene of a market place to life. With the hopes of giving students the
opportunity to do the same, we asked them to observe the environment and
activities carried out in the market using their five senses. After returning
from the trip, the students were encouraged to note down their observations
which will be used in a classroom project on the following week. During the
trip the students also enjoyed purchasing snacks for the ride back to the
school. Overall, the students relished themselves immensely during this short
but very informative excursion.
