TRIP TO AGORA

On Thursday 3 November 2016, students of grade 4 were taken on a short excursion to Agora. The initiative was taken by the English Literature teachers to incorporate literary knowledge with real life experience. In the most recent story, The Piece of String by Guy de Maupassant, students learned how imagery was used by the writer to bring a particular scene of a market place to life.  With the hopes of giving students the opportunity to do the same, we asked them to observe the environment and activities carried out in the market using their five senses. After returning from the trip, the students were encouraged to note down their observations which will be used in a classroom project on the following week. During the trip the students also enjoyed purchasing snacks for the ride back to the school. Overall, the students relished themselves immensely during this short but very informative excursion.

Campers out in the wild!

Class-3 Students experience camping during their English Literature class related to the story they are doing titled “Lazy bones Jones”. To get the young campers taste the actual feel of a camping trip, they were taken outside their classrooms, however, within the school premises, for a period full of fun and activities. The students prepared their own snacks and helped in cleaning up the campsite after they were done. Indeed the young campers learned through this activity the importance of group work and the term “doing the fair share”, which is the central theme of the story in concern.

Book Fair at ITHS

It is said that if you open the book, you will enter the new world. Book is the knowledge of ocean through which we can broaden our mind and raise awareness. So, to entertain the bookworms and encourage the reading habit among the students, International Turkish Hope School, Uttara Preschool and Junior Section arranged two days book fair on 1st November, 2016 at the open premises of its campus. There were five stalls from different publications like International Book Center, Gyan Bichitra, And Or book Shop, P.B.S and BNT displayed and sold their books. Different sorts of books such as story, fairy tales, series, noble, comics, science fiction, dictionary, biography of famous men, coloring books for kids and stationaries were exhibited. A huge crowd of students delightedly buried themselves among the vast number of books. They enjoyed, read, discovered and bought different types of books according to their interest. Kids accompanied by their parents joined the fair after the school and brought different kinds of coloring books and stationaries which inspire them towards books in the early age.
